Technopolis Tales are original fiction internet stories that take place in the near future and revolve around the new space travel business. The Space Coast has melded into one mega city, Technopolis, which is fast becoming THE world capitol as the World seems to shrink.

The stories are enhanced with internet technology such as multimedia and hyperlinks, to make them more interactive that traditional reading.

Why write about the near future? posted October 2010

I live on the Space Coast. Yep, I watch shuttle launches from the comforts of my front yard. When they go up, I cheer with the rest of the people watching on the Indian River shores. When disaster happened with Columbia, I joined these same people mourning at the public memorial ceremony held in Titusville. Space flight is part of the culture here and now it is at a crossroads.

People here believe that space exploration will yield even more benefits than it has already, only it may not be the government who will make it happen, but the private sector. Even if they don't quite know the rewards, they do know that there are thousands of jobs on the chopping block.

I see a future where space exploration makes it possible to harness greater and greener energy and to make the Earth more secure by opening our eyes to how small and vulnerable the planet is and that it is to our communal benefit to work together for the future, if not completely at peace.

The future I envision in these stories is not too far away. There are still the familiar things we know, but they have taken on a slightly futuristic cast, as they seem to do, right now, and almost daily. Some of this is beneficial - helium 3 could truly be an alternate fuel source - but I see a lot of the political correctness about a "green Earth" as posturing and just a disguise for greed and power. WIth the right spin, some people will make fortunes on the backs of the gullible who believe in the advertising/commercial message that having and doing more is the ideal human condition and will bring untold happiness. Elusive, they don't bother to add.

Moon Mayhem posted October 2010

Not quite science fiction but may be the next Big Thing for the World. Colonize and commercialize the Moon. Buy land! Mine helium 3 for greener Earth energy. Terraform the Moon and grow specialized crops. Establish living amenities. Make the Moon an exotic and adventurous travel destination. Not so far-fetched, especially if the private sector takes over space exploration from NASA and the vagaries of government budgeting.

What started out as a weekly serial is now an enhanced e-book available on Amazon for the Kindle reader.
